This Enfocus PitStop command allows detecting calls to typographic variants that do not exist in the font used. These simulations are known as "artificial font styles" or "faux italics / bold".
Some programs allow to simulate font variants that do not match an existing typographic variant font; for example: they allow the use of italics for a font that does not have an italic variant. The italic style simulation is done by skewing the characters of the text to which the simulation is applied. In the case of simulating a bold, the simulation is thickenning the all its strokes.
As useful as these simulations (artificial styles) are, they are a practice that easily causes unexpected results in print, so it is advisable to avoid them. If any is found, the PDF will be marked as chosen in the "Log
" area for further processing.
The command allows us to search for three artificial styles: "Italic
", "Bold
" and "Outline
". Only one option per command is allowed.
This three options are the same three "artificial" modes that Quark XPress has traditionally allowed, even if there was no corresponding font variant.
